So what now?
Well, now that we’ve started this guilt detox, you can imagine where we started to find information. Google! Yay, I love/hate you Google. You know more about me than my best friends.
I typed in... guilty and realized, nope, that leads to information about bail bonds. So instead I typed in “how to feel less guilty...” and it auto-filled to our great joy and equal despair the following “....about cheating,” “...after eating,” “...about everything.” Fuck. At least we can say that we're not alone in this.
Scrolling through the endless anonymous sites about dealing, saying goodbye to, and overcoming guilt, I closed my laptop, walked up to the counter at my local corner coffee shop and ordered a muffin. Just thinking about dealing/saying goodbye to and overcoming guilt was fairly overwhelming. I wanted to know how to do those things, but I shied away from finding out. Like just reading the words would make me guilty of all the things I’m trying to feel less shameful about.
So we were going to have to go about this another way. We decided that we don’t want to find information about dealing with guilt and just regurgitate it back to you. We have enough flashing in front of our faces to be bothered with another anonymous lecture. So instead, we decided that we’re here to show you our journey through guilt, hear your stories, build a community of support and understanding, and ultimately tell guilt that it can’t get the better of us anymore (basically to fuck itself).
